The property at 105 East A Street owned by Champion, Inc is the second of four recipients to complete a project that received a Downtown Assistance Program grant earlier this year. This historical building was in need of replacing aged windows that were in disrepair. The new windows were special ordered to replicate the original, historical appearance to allow them to look like the original windows. Champion, Inc replaced approximately half of the windows this year, and plans to replace the other half in 2020. “This project was a huge expense for Champion, Inc and we were honored to contribute even just a small amount to it. It is our goal incentivize property owners to maintain and improve their buildings, and to see Champion take such care in replacing the windows with new ones that honored the historical nature of the building was extremely encouraging,” said Amber Pipp, DDA Program Director.

Champion, Inc has completed this project and the DDA Board has approved payment of this grant in the amount of $3,000.

The Downtown Assistance Program grant was created in an effort to maintain and enhance the integrity of Downtown Iron Mountain properties and businesses and promote further growth and development within the City’s downtown, commercial core. The purpose of the grant is to provide financial incentive and assistance to property owners within the downtown district wishing to complete isolated construction activities, or procure professional services of various types to promote and enhance their business activity. This program is intended to promote positive, visual change and encourage improvements to properties or businesses that are in a prominent location.

The DDA has two grant programs for properties located in the Downtown District, the Façade Improvement Grant Program and the Downtown Assistance Program. Applications for these grants will be available again in the spring of 2020. More information, details, and guidelines can be found on the downtown website at www.downtownironmountain.com

These grants are made possible through downtown fundraiser events such as Brew Fest, Italian Fest, and Oktoberfest, through sponsorships and donations, and also through the DDA millage.
